Map design and Easter treasure hunt

Kia Ora families

Room 13 have been learning about maps, coordinates, compass direction and instructions for moving within space.

So we thought a task based on hunting around the school would be a great way to demonstrate what we have learned.  Room 13 children followed teacher instructions on how to find their Easter treasure, and also wrote their own instructions for another child to follow to another Easter egg.  It was a lot of fun, and as you can imagine they had high levels of attention to the tasks!

Please ask them about it, and maybe they would like to do a similar task at home?

Have a great week.

Sincerely

Mr Phillpotts

Week 9

Kia Ora Havelock!

We hope you had a great short week, we certainly did at school.

Can I say I have been impressed with the level of maturity developing within our class team.  Some children are learning to have themselves organised for each change of task, some are developing the efficiency with which they manage their tasks, books and resources, and some are organised enough to find time to help with extra classroom management tasks.

Congratulations to our class certificate winner for displaying creativity and initiative in class.  The detail in your art work is fantastic, and you make sure you are ready for each learning session without any delay.

I sincerely hope everyone has another superb weekend, and get a lot of rest.  With only two weeks left, room 13 children need to be on their best behaviour and very focused.  As I said to the class today, often approaching the end of a week or term I practice zero tolerance.  Which applies to time wasting, disruption, and lack of effort.  I also continue to show high praise for children who are doing the right thing, working hard, and staying on task.
They know who they are, and are identified verbally within the class.  This practice is about setting positive expectations, and giving classmates something positive to aspire towards.

All the best

Mr Phillpotts

Second only buddy class session!

Kia Ora

Today was great as we had a catch up, debrief, and proper introduction to our buddy class, Room 10.

We Had a buddy read, and a quick look at the obstacle course.

This is a great opportunity to share our reading skills, and be mentors for sounding out new words.

Hope you have a great weekend!

Tough Kid Training

In three days it is going to be the tough kid event.  In room 13 we have been training every day of the week.

For the first week we have been around the field twice, gone twice around the obstacle course and and a few people had to do some push ups.  So far we are fast and fit, oops, I forgot we have burnt our feet too on the hot concrete!  Now we are ready to do the tough kid!  Photos and Article by Millie
